Heritage Carousel is Closed for the Season
First Rider Contest Now Open!
Opening Day is just around the corner and the Heritage Carousel is now accepting entries for our First Rider of the Year contest. Children ages 12 and younger may enter between April 24 and May 9. Opening day is Saturday, May 20th at 11:00 a.m.
From all of the entries, 30 names will be selected and one name from those thirty will be selected on May 20th to be the official First Rider of 2017. The First Rider gets the first Carousel ride solo on the animal of their choice. The other children will then join in for the second ride.
The Official First Rider receives a Carousel T-shirt and gets to ride free all day. They will also be featured on our website as the 2017 First Rider. The other children selected will get to ride free for the entire day.
Entries must be received by 12:00 pm, May 9, 2017. Winners will be notified by email by Thursday, May 11. To enter, click here!
Cruise to the Carousel
The Rollin Relics sponsored the 16th annual Cruise to the Carousel on Sunday, August 28. It was another great success! There were 186 cars registered for the Car Show. Estimates put the crowd at 700 to 800. Guests were able to look at all the cars, bid on silent auction items, sign up for door prizes, enjoy food and drink and, as always, enjoy a free ride on the Carousel! The Carousel had nearly 1,000 riders during the event.
The winner of the coveted Carousel Choice Award was Gene Poore. Gene’s car is a 1940 Ford Sedan. The winner of the Union Park Neighborhood Association award was a beautiful 1941 Oldsmobile owned by Chuck Clark. To see more pictures from the show, check out the Rollin Relics facebook page, rollinrelicsdsm.
Cruise to the Carousel is a fun event for the community but it is also very important to the Carousel. It is the largest fundraiser for the Carousel each year. This year, members of the Rollin Relics presented the Heritage Carousel with a check for $7,000.00. Support from donors like the Rollin Relics allows us to maintain and update the Carousel while keeping the cost of a ride to 50 cents for children.
