Group and Party Rental Information

The Heritage Carousel is a non-profit organization supported solely though admission, donations and sponsorship.  Thank you for considering the Carousel for your event.  Your support allows the Carousel Foundation to keep going ‘round so everyone can enjoy this delightful experience!

The Heritage Carousel of Des Moines is available for corporate and association functions, birthday parties, family gatherings and other private uses.  There is an enclosed shelter house with restroom facilities north of the Carousel and picnic tables are located near the Carousel.  Union Park offers adequate parking and large open areas for group events, play equipment suitable for a variety of ages and a free wading pool (open seasonally). 

Riding & Renting

The Season Pass: For the riders who just keep goin’ round! Immediate family members or Grandparents/Grandkids. Unlimited rides the entire season ~ $35.

Childcare Provider Season Pass: Unlimited rides for kids in your care.
Fee: 1-5 kids: $40
         6-15 kids: $50
        16 - 30 kids: $60
        31+ kids: $70
Joint Pass - Up to 3 programs under the same parent company ~ $135.

Private Rental: Perfect for reunions, company picnics, school outings, birthdays or any group gathering. Available in the spring & fall too!
Fee:
     The hour prior to opening or immediately after closing ~ $75 per hour.
     Any Monday or during the off-season (spring & fall) ~ $100 the 1st hour, $75 each additional hour.

Carousel Kid Cards: Buy 6 rides, get 1 free ~ $3

Wristband Rider!
Unlimited rides by the hour or the day.
$5/hr., $3 per hour 2+ hrs., $10 per day.

Group discounts:
12+ wristbands, $2 per hour, 2+ hours.
OR
Large Group Gatherings: Unlimited riders & rides.
Schools & Non-Profits: $50/hour.
Private or For Profit: $60/hour.

Tokens: 50 cents each. One token per kid,
2 per adult. (No charge for adult to stand next to child.)
Bulk discounts: Buy 60, get 10 free - $30
Buy 100, get 25 free - $50

Birthday Parties At the Carousel!

Consider the Carousel for your birthday fun!

A party option to fit your budget and imagination, a big park for outdoor play, a pool for wading, fun to be had. A party to remember!

My Own Carousel! Private use of the Carousel. Unlimited rides for your Carousel lover and friends. Use of the Carousel pavilion and picnic table. Food and non-alcoholic drinks may be brought in as well as decorations for around the table area. Unlimited number of guests.

Fee: If rented just prior to opening or immediately after closing ~ $75. If rented on any Monday or during the off-season (spring & fall) ~ $100 the 1st hour, $75 each additional hour.

Unlimited Ride Wristbands for Kids ~
The easiest way to let the kids ride and ride!
$5/hr., $3 per hour 2+ hours, $10 per day.

Sponsorship

  Individuals, organizations, businesses and corporations may sponsor free rides for the public just for fun or in connection to a special activity at the Carousel.  Sponsorship costs are $150 per hour.  The sponsoring person or organization will be recognized (unless they choose to remain anonymous) in all promotional releases, on the website, in electronic notifications and on signage at the Carousel.

Rental Rules

  1. Party guests may not be charged admission to ride the Carousel.
  2. No food or drink is allowed on the Carousel.
  3. Getting off of the Carousel while it is in motion is strictly prohibited.
  4. The Carousel Operator has the authority to deny access to anyone deemed unfit.
  5. The renter will assume responsibility and liability for the safety of their guests.

Food: The renter or an outside caterer may bring in food.

Alcohol: Allowed at adult gatherings only. Advanced notice must be provided to allow for permission to be obtained from the Park & Recreation board.

Shelter House: The shelter to the north of the Carousel may be reserved through the City of Des Moines Park and Recreation Department (237-1386) or a picnic table is located inside the carousel building which you may request to use.  There are many picnic tables located in the park near the carousel.
