Carousel Pals Day

Bring your stuffed “pal” to ride the carousel and pal around all afternoon!

Enjoy pet and pal related story telling and art activities and meet the adopted and adoptable dogs from the Heartland Greyhound Adoption Program!

Meet a Grey(t) Pal!  The Heartland Greyhound Adoption Program will have adopted and adoptable retired greyhounds at the carousel for you to meet, enjoy and learn what wonderful pals these beautiful and gentle dogs make! 

Art activities with Mindy Brightman!  Mindy is an art teacher and operator of Art Base(ment).   She specializes in working with children.  Her classes allow children to explore art through many differing mediums, learn about the artwork of various artists, and express themselves, their thoughts and feelings through art.

Pet and Pal Stories!  Share a story with your pal as you listen to Dave Ashcraft share stories.  Dave is a librarian at the Forest Avenue Library and a charter member of the Two Rivers Storytelling Guild in Des Moines. People should bring blankets to sit on for the
storyteller 

Art activities and storytelling are free.  As always, carousel rides are just 50 cents per child and $1 for adult, no charge for an adult to stand next to a child.

FREE rides all day long!

Celebrate 10 years of going ‘round on the Heritage Carousel!  The creators of the Heritage Carousel and owners of Carousel Works, the largest manufacturer of authentic, wooden carousels will be on site providing a carving and painting demonstration on actual carousel animals, explaining their craft and answering questions.  Learn about the artistry and craftsmanship that bring beauty to this carousel. You can take a tour of the Carousel Works shop on their web site.

The carving and painting demonstration is provided for by a grant from the Iowa Arts Council.

“Cruise to the Carousel” – 7th Annual Rollin’ Relics Annual Car Show! 

See beautiful cars and ride the Heritage Carousel for free from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Thank you Rollin’ Relics Car Club – the largest annual contributor to the Carousel!

Grandparents Day
Celebrate Grandparents!

All day long a grandparent may ride free with the purchase of a child's ride!

From 1 - 3 p.m. The Banjo Revival will take the place of the band organ and entertain us with some sweet strumming! Bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy and afternoon at the Carousel!
